Little Aero Page - Survey - results

You should recognize that results do not show the typical Aero-user and his equipment.
This is because I only have information about Aero-users who have filled out my form, and most of those people are subscribed to the Aero-mailing list (what means that they are happy Aero-users and not the people who have real problems with their computer).

Well, there are Aero users all over the world:

Aero-configuration:

Aero-type:
63% of the Aeros out there are 4/33 color
37% are 4/25 monochrome
There are still no Contura Aero 5/133 color notebooks out there...


Ram:

The typical Aero 4/25 has an average of 11.7MB Ram

Aero 4/33: 13.6MB


29% of all Aeros have 20MB
48% have 12MB
11% have 8MB
12% have 4MB
This makes a total average of 12.9MB Ram
All those Aero-users together have 1072MB Ram.


hard disk:
The 4/25 has an average of 282MB, 71% of them are the original Compaq hard disks
The 4/33 has an average of 326MB, 21% of the hard disks are updated to 540, 720MB, 810MB, 1080MB or even 1300MB.

This means that 24% of all Aeors have updated hard disks.
The hard disk-sizes have a range of 84MB to 1300MB, total average is 309MB.
All those Aero-users together have 25.7GB hard disk-space.

13% of the disks are 84MB
29% are 170MB
31% are 250MB
13% are 540MB
6% are 810MB

additional components:
94% do have the PCMCIA-Floppy
75% a modem (74% of them are PCMCIA - modems)
65% a cenvenience base
30% a mobile port-expander
27% an ethernet-adaptor
24% a car-adaptor
and there are many other additional devices like:
Zip-drives, CD, SCSI, PCMCIA-VGA-adaptor, PCMCIA sound, parallel-port sound, external HDD, external monitors, hyperchargers, touchpoints, mice, interlink-cables, keyboards, battery-conditioners, Flash-memory cards, mobile printers, quickcams and of course: spare-trolls for the screens... ;-)

Operating Systems:

49% use Windows 3.x

46% Windows 95

38% Dos

12% Linux

and there are a few people running Win97, OS2, Novell Dos, Free BSD or Cairo


So the typical Aero has the following configuration:
i486 at 30MHz, 11 colors, 12.9MB Ram, 309MB hard disk, 1.35MB diskdrive, running Winlux 59 :-)

The Aero-users "configuration:"

What they use their Aero for:

43% business

43% school, college, university, etc

77% hobby, fun (are there 23% having no fun with their Aero ?!?!)


technical knowledge:
• super: 5% can build an Aero clone from scrap tin-foil... :-)
  
• good: 47% think their knowledge is good
• O.K.: 38%
• bad: 10%

Some of them have other computers beside the Aero:
89% have one or more desktops
18% have one or more other notebooks

The facts about my Little Aero Page:

• Nobody up to now has had the courage to tell me that my Little Aero Page is bad.
  (I know it still is, but I am trying to improve it. Maybe I even start adding little pictures or so, although I do not like that that much.)
  
• 56% even like my Aero Page very much How many of them told me the truth?
• The internet-performance connecting to my Page:
  41% have a fast access to my page and do not have problems
  9% have a very slow access :-(

Additional comments, facts and curiositys:

• Most Aero-users are astonished about the great help they get from others and want to thank them very much, so do I.
• Many suggestions arrive for links and additions for my page, I am trying to utilize them as good as I can. (For I am a student I do not always have that much time and for I do not have enough experience with the Internet I am not able to program error-free HTML. My english is not that good either, I use dictionarys all the time, so please feel free to correct me if I have errors in my pages.)

I have to quote these ones:
• "some day someone will write a 256 color driver that skips the pop-up icons and my computing life will be complete"
• "I can disassemble the Aero without problem, but I had problems getting the little trolls back into the case..."
