Unsolved Problems with the Aero

Unfortunately there are still lots of unsolved problems with the Aero. But this also means that there are still a lot of challenges for every aero-user on the world.
This page is not ment to repeat the questions and answers of the FAQ. If you want to ask questions please do this in the newsgroup at news.aisb.org, if you have no access to the news you can also write an e-mail to aero@aisb.org, it should also appear in the news then.

The two standard-problems:

  1. There is still no 32bit PCMCIA-Floppy driver available for the Aero and it does not seem as if compaq is going to build one.
Possible solution: Force Compaq to build a driver.
  2. The Aero's screen IS able to do the 640x480x256 mode, but unfortunately compaq used the SPC8106F0b in the Aero, not the SPC8106F0c.

Some little problems or things I would like to know:

  1. The 0.2mm question
There are hard disks of 12.5mm and 12.7mm, both of them fit into the Aero. What I would like to know is whether there really is a difference in hight of the drives or whether it is just an error in computing inches to millimeters:
    0.5 inch · 2.54 cm/inch = 1.27 cm = 12.7 mm - This is the right way
    0.5 inch · 2.5 cm/inch = 1.25 cm = 12.5 mm - This is the wrong way

(the difference is only 0.2mm !!!)
  2. Connected or not?
Is there a way to find out by software whether the Aero is connected to a convenience- base or a mobile port-expander or not? The Softpaqs 2170, 1929, 1629, 1169, 0832 and 0384 do not work with the Aero.
