HP/Agilent has built some very good power supplies like the HP6632B (0..20V 0..5A). From time to time you can score one of these beefy devices in used condition for little money on eBay for example. However most of the time they do not have front panel connectors installed. That is because they are often installed in a rack, hard wired to some other equipment using the back panel connectors.
Dave Jones has posted a video to his blog, where he upgrades his 6643A (very similar construction to the HP6632B) with binding posts.
I have done a similar hack about a year ago. All the outputs from the rear are wired to the front. (continue reading…)
